What the sheriff's office says happened

The first 911 calls reporting gunfire at the 3800 Citibank Center plaza came in at 12:11 p.m. on Nov. 4, Chief Deputy Frank Losat said. A man drove a small sedan over several medians and through a secured fence before crashing into an outdoor seating area where employees were eating lunch, according to Losat.

Losat said the man got out of the car with a rifle, walked up to a woman and shot her. She died.

The first marked deputy unit arrived and entered the building by 12:12 p.m., Losat said. At 12:15 p.m., an armed Citibank security officer confronted the gunman in the building's cafeteria, and the two exchanged gunfire. The gunman was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died.

"The security guard that's employed by Citibank stopped the threat," Losat said.

Four other people were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, WTSP reported.

What the footage shows

The released video shows deputies entering the building and finding the suspect down, and employees being escorted out of rooms where they had been hiding before walking outside with their hands up, FOX 13 reported.

The response

About 3,200 Citibank employees were on the property, and 367 sheriff's deputies responded along with SWAT teams, federal partners and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Losat said. Deputies spent about two and a half hours clearing and searching the campus buildings, including locked rooms.

What's still unknown

The sheriff's office has not released the names of the gunman or the woman who was killed, a motive, or whether the two knew each other. Detectives planned to keep interviewing employees into the night.
